How should I dress for my charter?
Dress WARM, and in layers. The temperature on the river is much colder than on land. If you think you will be warm enough, add another layer.
Rain/waterproof outer layers are highly recommended. Warm shoes/boots that are water resistant or waterproof are also recommended.
Wear a hoodie or bring a hat too, and bring sunglasses, polarized are best.
Do I need to bring fishing gear?
You do not need to bring any fishing gear. All the fishing gear you need for the trip will be provided.
The boat is equipped with custom built walleye jigging rods, and a full selection of Captain Brian’s handmade jigs, plus all the other gear and supplies needed for a great day of fishing.
What about coolers, packs or bags?
You should bring a cooler to leave in your vehicle for taking your catch home. There is a cooler on the boat that you can use for your drinks and snacks, but you will not be able to bring your own cooler on the boat. Bottled water is provided on the boat.
In order to allow the best fishing experience, packs and bags are best left behind. If you have specific required needs to bring items in a pack or bag, please limit the size as much as possible, and discuss with the Captain ahead of time to ensure your needs are met.
Do I get to keep my catch?
Yes. Absolutely. Each person is allowed to keep up to six walleye on the Detroit River. You will be able to take home your fish after the trip.
Captain Brian will fillet your fish, and get them ready for you to take home to enjoy a few delicious fish dinners. He will even share his fantastic fish fry recipes with you if you ask him.
Do I need fishing experience?
Fishing experience, while helpful, is not required. Captain Brian will direct you on what to do and help you learn as you go.
What if the weather is bad the day of my charter?
In the event that the weather is going to be too dangerous to fish, the Captain will cancel the charter and allow you an option to reschedule or a refund of your deposit.
If you cancel your charter due to weather, you will forfeit your deposit. Charters typically will still run in the rain and wind, and less than optimal weather, so long as the conditions do not present a danger. The Captain makes the final call on weather cancellations.
How do I pay the balance for my charter?
We accept multiple payment options. You can pay via cash, Venmo, or credit/debit card. If you need a receipt or invoice for your trip, please ask your Captain and one will be emailed to you.
Should I tip my fishing guide?
Absolutely, if you enjoyed your day. While it is not mandatory, it is customary to tip, and much appreciated. Tips can be given to your guide using any of the payment methods listed.
